Ragamalan “Gamelan rhythms work very well in Indian raga - I developed a piano style in which Indian raga replaces the tonal or atonal.” Composer and pianist Sinta Wullur presents her new album Ragamalan with compositions for piano intertwined with Balinese gamelan and Indian ragas.

Ragamalan contains ten tracks that differ in atmosphere and style. In Shades of Jog - Jog is the name of the raga - and Royal Hindoli you can hear Sinta's piano with Lenneke van Staalen on violin and Heiko Dijker on tabla. In Tagore's Fireflies with Laurens de Boer on piano, you will hear the soprano Madeline Saputra with a poem by Rabindranath Tagore (1862 - 1941). In The Earth from a distance, the bansuri (Indian transverse flute) by Aura Rascón and the Rav drums played by Heiko Dijker can be heard. The santoor played by Sandip Bhattacharya is present heard in Charukeshi Preludi & Toccata. The bansuri plays an important role in Samudra Bansuri. The tracks Tagore meets Satie, Ragamalan, Takita Nyeledèt, Bali in Blue are for solo piano. The last three are performed by Laurens de Boer.

Sinta Wullur is known for the chromatic gamelan instruments she developed, with which Western musicians can play together seamlessly. Although the instrumentation has been adapted to the Western tone system, the gamelan music remains modal.
Wullur has not only immersed herself in the Balinese gamelan (her background is Western classical), but also in Indian singing. She lets Indonesia and India come together musically on her album Indi Go (2010).
